GO AWAY PART ONE
Mary was too hot with the covers pulled up around her head, but she didn’t want to risk seeing it again.
She had finally summoned the courage to tell her mom, who responded, “Ten is too old to be making up ghost stories for attention,” in her signature cold tone. Boy, did Mary wish she was making it up.
She quietly pulled the covers down just enough to see the glowing red numbers of the clock on the bedside table. 2:30. It came earlier tonight.
The scratches began on the inside of the closet door. Deliberate and menacing. Even under the layers of blanket, Mary felt a chill on the back of her neck.
“Please go away. Please go away. Please go away,” Mary whispered, squeezing her eyes shut. The scratching stopped and a moment later she heard the familiar creek of the closet door, slowly opening.
